Multi-award winning singer Janet Jackson welcomed her first son with businessman Wissam Al Mana, Eissa, to the world on 3 January 2017.
Janet, who turns 50 this year, stunned the world when she first announced early last year that she was expecting and spent most of her pregnancy away from the public eye.
We hardly blame her, as being pregnant is difficult enough as it is without having cameras trained on you. Still it’s quite a feat to become a new mama at 50 and we pay tribute to her journey to motherhood.
The world first got a whiff that a bun was brewing in her oven when Janet abruptly postponed her Unbreakable tour, citing reasons that there had been a sudden change in plans, that a family was in the works, and that she had to “rest up, doctor’s orders!” via a video posted on her Facebook page on 6 April 2016.
Shortly after, the fiercely private singer largely disappeared from the public eye. The only official photos that were available of her pregnancy were shot as part of an exclusive interview she did with People magazine.
The images showed that pregnancy agreed with her as the expectant mum looked glowing and radiant in a white skintight outfit.
The next time she was in the news was when she was photographed in London shopping for baby-related items.
Thereafter, she was spotted on certain occasions taking leisurely strolls with her husband but was mainly on bed rest towards the end of her pregnancy, as shared by older sister, La Toya Jackson.
Sources say she was excited at the thought of becoming a mum, and according to her brother Jermaine Jackson(who has nine children of his own): “She’ll be a great mother because she’s very tough, very strict.”
However, if his baby sister ever needs help taking care of her son, we are sure that big brother Jermaine – “the best diaper changer there is on this planet, still to this day” – will be there for her.
We’re certain that Janet will get all the support that she needs and the arrival of little Eissa, who will have many uncle and aunties doting over him, will be the best part of 2017 for her.
