If you’re a huge Olympics fan, this man should be no stranger to you. One of the world’s most recognisable Olympian swimmer – Michael Phelps is our dad crush of the week!
The youngest of three, Michael began swimming at the age of seven partly due to the influence of his sisters. At eleven, he was diagnosed with attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) but already held the national record for 100-meter butterfly for his age group – which led to him training at the North Baltimore Aquatic Club.
The 2000 Sydney Olympics was his first taste of the Olympics. He was only 15, the youngest member to join the U.S. Olympics swim team.
The following year, he broke the world record for the 200-meter butterfly, making him the youngest male to set a swimming record. At the World Championships, he broke his own record – making him a world champion.
Michael announced his retirement at the Rio de Janeiro Olympics, bringing his collection of competitive medals to a whopping 82 in total.
He secretly married former Miss California USA, Nicole Johnson in 2016. The couple welcomed their first child, Boomer Robert Phelps on 5 May 2016 and just a few weeks ago, welcomed their second son, Beckett Richard Phelps on 12 February 2018. Here’s a sneak peek into the life that is Michael Phelps. @m_phelps00
