Mum Crush Wednesday: Gal Gadot

By Samantha Jong
June 7, 2017

Our mum crush of the week has been dominating the big screens across the world as Wonder Woman. Gal Gadot joined actresses Cathy Lee Crosby and Lynda Carter to be the latest woman to don the iconic Wonder Woman suit, and the movie has been critically praised, with many calling it the best DC Universe movie yet.

Like the character Wonder Woman, Gal is not just a pretty face! She has beauty, brawn and brains. The spunky gal served in the Israeli Defense Forces for two years when she was 20, and she majored in law and international relations in university. Did we also mention that she’s a mum to two daughters?

Gal first came to the public eye as a Miss Universe contestant in 2004 where she represented her country, Israel.

However, she was not your typical pageant queen, and she admitted in an interview with Jimmy Kimmel that she actually “set herself a mission not to win the Miss Universe pageant”.

Even then, she still managed to catch the attention of movie scouts and was asked to audition for the iconic Bond girl role in Quantum of Solace. The part eventually went to fellow actress Olga Kurylenko, but that didn’t stop Gal from advancing in her movie career. She ended up joining the likes of Vin Diesel and the late Paul Walker as Gisele not one but three movies from the Fast and Furious franchise. The fearless gal even did her own stunts.

She was then chosen by director Zac Snyder to portray the iconic Wonder Woman, who first made her appearance in 2016’s Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice.

Gal’s in demand not just on the big screen, but also on the covers of magazines, including Glamour, The Hollywood Reporter, Marie Claire and W Magazine.

I'm excited to share my new @MarieClaireMag cover with you! Head to MarieClaire.com to see more.

We expect nothing less from the first woman to front a superhero film in more than a decade. In fact, it wouldn’t be too much of a stretch to consider her to be Wonder Woman personified – Wonder Woman is a symbol of  beauty, truth, love and all that is good in the world, and the talented actress seems to embody all the same qualities.

On the personal front, Gal has been married to her husband, real estate developer Yaron Varsano, for almost a decade, and the pair are still madly in love and not afraid of showing it.

The pair added to their little family in 2011 with the arrival of daughter Alma in 2011 and Maya in 2017.

Fun fact: The statuesque actress was pregnant during most of the filming duration of Wonder Woman. By the time they needed to do reshoots for Wonder Woman, Gal was five months pregnant and the production crew had to replace part of her costume with green cloth to make editing out her visible baby bump easier.

No matter what she has going on in her life, Gal always tries to be the best version of herself and she identifies with the same values that Wonder Woman stands for and that makes us love her even more.

We know we can’t get enough of this wonder woman, and we can’t wait to catch more of her in Justice League, which is slated to hit cinemas in November 2017!

Repost from @justiceleague: #JusticeLeague in theaters November 17.
