Let’s face it. Most of us women are figure and shape conscious, especially if we feel like we have recently put on a few pounds. Some of you might be struggling to shed some excess weight, or have been trying to get rid of that post-baby weight. Others are perhaps endlessly dieting and training without the results. It happens, and there could be a multitude number of reasons behind this, including:

  • Fad dieting
  • Eating too much junk food
  • Not enough strength exercise
  • Too much alcohol

And the list goes on… but there is always a solution to help get you back into shape.

Remember: Food is not the enemy
Contrary to popular belief, abs are not made at the gym but in the kitchen, so start there. Focus on what you eat and ensure that you’re consuming a balanced diet with plenty of fresh fruits and vegetables, lean proteins, natural carbs. Avoid the processed and sugary snacks – those are the real killers!

Life is all about creating a healthy balance, which is why fad or quick-fix diets don’t work in the long-term. Don’t treat adopting a healthy lifestyle as a chore, but make it a normal part of your everyday life. Moderation is key, so don’t deprive yourself of the things you love to consume. If you want to eat pizza, drink wine and enjoy a cheese night, do it, but all in moderation.

Pick up those weights
The next thing to focus on is exercise and don’t be afraid to incorporate strength-based exercises into your workout – you won’t get bulky! Strength exercises, in combination with cardio, can really work wonders for our body, helping to create a lean and healthy physique.

Here’s a fab ab workout from our “4-week Body By Momentum” challenge. You can really do this anywhere. If you’ll like to challenge yourself and try adding some light weights to the Russian Twists.

You need to want it and work for it
This may sound pretty obvious but to make a change in your life, you really need to want it and work for it. Commit to changing your lifestyle habits, make an effort to stock your fridge with wholesome and healthy food, and change your mind-set. Without making direct changes in your life, you’ll be back to square one, and wondering why you are not getting the results you’re after.

Eat right, exercise often, sleep well, hydrate well, and you’ll soon be on your way to a fit new you.
