By Mummyfique
August 21, 2017

Our dad crush of the week may have shocked local audiences when he announced that he was going to be a father four years ago, but he has proven himself to be an adoring father to his son Aden and little girl Avery, and a loving husband to his wife, fellow actress Kate Pang. The family show off their excellent chemistry on their YouTube channel and parenting site, Kandie Family, which is updated regularly with new videos, and you can spot his two munchkins all over this social media feeds. It just so happens that Andie is also a versatile actor who was nominated for both the Best Actor and Best Supporting Actor awards at the 2007 Star Awards – not too shabby for someone who wanted to be in the entertainment scene since he was young.

Andie was first thrust into the limelight when he emerged as the winner of talent competition, Star Search 2017. However, fame wasn’t instantaneous and he struggled to get the type of roles he wanted. It was only after his breakthrough role as a good guy-turned-gangster in Channel 5’s Fighting Spiders did he start getting lead roles in Channel 8’s blockbuster dramas such as The Journey: Tumultuous Times and The Lead.

Not content to just star in local productions, he has ventured to Taiwan in a bid to improve his craft and spent two years there, from 2013 to 2014, snagging small roles and modeling jobs. He eventually landed a recurring role as a prosecutor in long form Taiwanese drama, Independent Heroes, but quit to return to Singapore where he could spend more time with his family.

Always looking to try something new, Andie made his musical stage debut as the lead in the third remake of Mandarin musical, December Rains, in 2015. This attribute of his is why he has played a diverse range of characters on local television, from a scheming police officer to a nerdy geek.

The things that Andie have done have never failed to surprise the public, and his marriage was no different. He and wife Kate had actually been dating in private for two years before they announced that they were expecting a baby and had gotten married in late 2013. The pair first met on television drama Joys Of Life but only got to know one another better when they were cast as an onscreen couple in Break Free and it was then that the unconventional couple made it official, though they denied their relationships with one another whenever they were asked.

After welcoming Aden to their family 2014 and subsequently Avery in 2016 (she shares the same birthday as her dad Andie), they have become one of Singapore’s most well-known families.

The close family bond in the Chen household is evident, especially in their videos, which star their two young ones. For this project, Andie takes a more behind-the-scenes role and puts his skills as an alumnus of Ngee Ann Polytechnic’s Film, Sound, and Video diploma programme to good use. The videos on the site share practical parenting information and fun skits, and Andie has shared that this project allows give him “the ability to work and be with his family at the same time.”

Kandie Family aside, Andie is a hands-on father who is very involved in his children’s lifes, feeding them, caring for them and playing with them.

When you love him but is so embarrassed by him. Lol. I'm missing this boy so bad. 😭@kandiefamily

We hope Aden and Avery know how lucky they are to have such a loving dad and we can’t wait to see how else Andie plans to dazzle and surprise us.
