Island-Hopping: 5 Fabulous Islands For Families

By Mummyfique Contributor
November 2, 2017

Your carefree island-hopping days don’t have to end just because you have children. Whisking your brood to a private hideaway makes for all kinds of family fun as Lightfoot Travel reveals.

& Beyond Vamizi Island, Mozambique

A delicious feeling of freedom happens immediately at & Beyond Vamizi Island when you board your very own private charter to get to this stunning escape in the Quirimbas Archipelago. Combining sophistication with pure relaxation, you’ll find yourself surrounded by powder white sand beaches, turquoise waters, and abundant marine life.

There are no TVs which contributes beautifully to the hideaway atmosphere and encourages families to create their own entertainment. Diving, snorkelling, deep-sea fishing and ethical spearfishing make for brilliantly adventurous day trips – babysitting can be arranged while mums and dads head out on a romantic sunset dhow cruise or lavish picnic.

Dedon Island, Philippines

Think castaway meets luxury and comfort at the all-inclusive Dedon Island, which is not far from the legendary Cloud 9 surf break on the remote island of Siargao. Nine swish thatched villas are dotted within manicured gardens and the two-storey deluxe options are ideal for families. Here, the order of the day is total-chill so we recommend lounging in the quirky hanging pods with a good book while you send your little ones trampolining, or to the pool area which is regularly transformed into an enchanting open-air cinema. There’s also a spa pavilion and cookery and surf lessons available. PS. While it’s amazing now, next year sees some exciting changes, so watch this space!

 Kanuhura, Maldives

It would not be wrong to dream of being stranded at Kanuhura. Located on the eastern rim of Lhaviyani Atoll, this picture-perfect spot is famed for its laid-back feel and authentic Maldivian charm which soaks into your psyche the moment you arrive. Accommodation is in villas, either on the island’s coral sand fringe or in a little village on stilts at the end of a wooden pier which is super-cute treat for little ones. Prevent fighting with your offspring for space on the overwater hammocks by introducing them to the great kids’ club (aged four to 11) that offers organised games, screenings and a library. Babysitting services are also available.

Almyra, Cyprus

Set on the seafront in the historic town of Paphos is the Almyra. Combining modern design, sophisticated facilities and family-friendly features, it’s an excellent go-to for those seeking an upscale retreat with an unpretentious atmosphere. Activities are endless. Tennis, pony-trekking, rock-climbing, mountain-biking, and watersports are all on tap. For the less energetic, the hotel boasts four restaurants, four swimming pools and a superb spa – which is exactly where you should be while your little ones join the kids’ club (aged four to 17). Also amazing; parents can order children’s essentials in advance of arrival with the Baby Go Lightly programme.

North Island, Seychelles

The epitome of barefoot luxury, North Island is a private island sanctuary 30 kilometres from Mahé in the Seychelles and can only be reached by helicopter, which is beyond exciting for both kids and grown-ups! The tropical resort features 11 beautiful villas boasting separate living rooms, indoor and outdoor showers, a plunge pool, and views of the Indian Ocean. A superb array of activities are available both on land and in the water. Little (and big!) adventurers can explore on buggies or mountain bikes, go kayaking, deep-sea fishing, snorkeling or diving, and we’re all for ending your day with a sunset cruise and a smile on your face.
