Dad Crush Monday: Prince William

By Samantha Jong
December 26, 2016

From being every little girl’s prince charming, he has now grown into a man and father, fit to be the king of a country. We’re talking about none other than our dad crush of the week, Prince William, Duke of Cambridge.

In recent years, especially after since he became a family man, we’ve been seeing a lot more of him on royal duties, especially since the current Queen is getting on in years.  The Prince is often joined by his wife Kate and brother, Prince Harry.

Just this Christmas, he was seen spending time with young volunteers who are helping other young people with challenging issues. He spent time with them at the annual Christmas party of Heads Together and The Mix, two charities in the UK.

His royal duties stretch across a wide range of activities. He often plays the role of a representative of the UK. He travels the world maintaining good ties and relations with other countries and welcomes foreign dignitaries to the UK.

He also represents the royal family at important occasions, such as honouring the fallen soldiers on the Day of Remembrance Sunday.

Not all royal duties are as serious though and there are privileges that he thoroughly enjoys, such as touring Pinewood Studios in Buckinghamshire where he and his brother, Prince Harry, visited the set of the new Star Wars film, interacted with BB8 and duelled with lightsabers. Rumour has it that they were there to film a cameo as stormtroopers — how cool is that?

Prince William is not just about fun and games; he’s passionate about many important world issues and puts his influence to good use by throwing his support behind the causes he feels for. For instance, having worked as an ambulance pilot, he knows that there are many mental stresses for particular occupations and he advocated for employers to be more open about mental health issues at work with business leaders at a workplace mental wellbeing seminar.

Conservation is also high up on this list of causes that he campaigns for.

Just last year, he recorded a speech for Chinese television in a bid to help the fight against illegal wildlife trade, urging the public to conserve and protect endangered species.

Despite all the demands on the young royals shoulders, he remains very close to the family and by all accounts, can be considered a family man.

He broke the hearts of many girls when he married Catherine (Kate) Middleton in a breathtakingly beautiful wedding in 2011.

And the public has embraced the couple, especially since they have shown that they are not afraid to have fun, making them even more relatable and seemingly down to earth.

Together, they have two adorable children, George, three, and Charlotte, 19 months, and from the way he cares for his young children, we’re seeing a new, caring side to the future King of the British Empire.

From the looks of it, Prince William is a wonderfully hands-on dad who isn’t afraid to get elbow deep in childcare, and with that amount of love of his little ones, we’re sure he’s going to do a great job of caring for his subjects when he becomes King.
