What’s On in March: Theatrical Experiences for the Whole Family

This month, introduce your children to the arts, with a wide array of theatrical experiences for all ages.

Cultivate in your little ones an appreciation of the arts, with their First Rave, puppetry or through arts and crafts with an array of theatrical experiences this month. Or treat them to live shows of PAW Patrol or Disney characters on ice. Then, steal away for some quality time for grown up productions of A Dream of Red Mansions Ballet or the global world tour of Les Misérables.

PAW Patrol Live! The Great Pirate Adventure, Marina Bay Sands Theatre, 11 - 15 March

In PAW Patrol Live! The Great Pirate Adventure, Ryder and his team of heroic pups set out on a great adventure to rescue Cap ‘n Turbot from a mysterious cavern. Along the way they uncover a secret pirate treasure map that leads to treasure for Mayor Goodway’s Pirate Day Celebration. Hence, follow PAW Patrol in this live stage show as they track down the treasure. Of course, they will also have to foil Mayor Humdinger’s efforts to reach it first. Price from $58.

March On Productions for Kids at Esplanade Theatre

Older Children (5-9 years old)

Throughout March, Esplanade Theatre has a plethora of experiences for the whole family. First, watch the Barrowland Ballet perform the Tiger Tale for 7 and up, on 13 – 14 March ($35 per person, free seating). In it, a tiger invades and cause chaos, turning a family upside down. 

Next, the free production a-e-i-o, shh! on 16 March at 11am and 2pm celebrates multiple ways of expressing and being heard. For instance, two friends reunite after a long time. With vowels, silence, rhythm, consonants and simple instruments, they learn to make music together.

Finally, children from 5 to 9 years old can engage in a variety of arts and crafts and drama activities to make a garden and save the bees of Garden Warble. This production, Auntie Rosie’s Bee-autiful Garden! will be on 22 March (tickets from $40 to $60 for an adult-child package). 

Babies and Toddlers

Toddlers 16 to 20 months will love BABYZILLAS on 15 March, 11am and 2pm. This free production allows toddlers and families to mover and play in the immersive playground. 

Otherwise, for younger kids 6 months to 4 years old, try March On Squirrel from 20 to 25 March. Prices range from $60 to $90 for an adult-child package, including  infants-in-arm. In this production, combining magic and puppetry, Squirrel tries to find their favourite acorn collection. Children are actively encouraged to participate – and can make noise, leave and return to their seat or access toilets during the performance. 

Around the same period, on 19 to 22 March, babies 3 to 12 months can experience their First Rave (tickets $60 to $90 for adult-child package, including infants-in-arm). This powerful and affirming experience for babies and new parents introduces adult and baby audience members to each other’s worlds. The production utilises light, sound and puppetry, culminating in a gentle and magical rave party. Children with neurodiverse needs and barriers to access are also welcome. 

Disney On Ice Presents Magic in The Stars, Singapore Indoor Stadium, 14 - 22 March

Celebrate the unforgettable adventures and beloved stories of Disney and Pixar brought to life in new ways at Disney On Ice Presents Magic in the Stars. In it, beloved characters perform spectacular acrobatics on ice. Some beloved characters in the lineup include Aladdin, Cinderella, the Disney Princesses, Moana, Raya and the Last Dragon. Prices from $17 to $198, and children two and up must purchase a ticket. 

A Dream of Red Mansions Ballet, Esplanade Theatre, 12 - 15 March

Immerse yourself in the National Ballet of China’s production of A Dream of Red Mansions (from $88). Follow Jia Baoyu through a dreamlike realm featuring past lives, souls of flowers and childhood companions, against the backdrop of the grand Rong Mansion. As his life – and the story unfolds – childlike innocence is gradually replaced by love, societal expectations, political turmoil, tragic revelations and shattered dreams. 

Les Misérables: The Arena Spectacular World Tour, Marina Bay Sands Theatre, 24 March - 10 May

Arriving in Singapore for its record-breaking World Tour, Cameron Mackintosh’s production of Boublil and Schönberg’s Les Misérables The Arena Spectacular is the world’s longest-running musical with 40 revolutionary years in London. This spectacular production now showcases new design for larger venues. Additionally, the cast and orchestra number more than 65 members. Les Misérables has been seen by more than 130 million people worldwide, in 22 languages and 54 countries. Victor Hugo’s classic tale is an enduring story of sacrifice, redemption, broken dreams, unrequited love. A timeless testament to the perseverance of the human spirit, the musical features an enthralling score of songs including On My Own, Bring Him Home, One Day More, and I Dreamed a Dream. Tickets from $88.
