So your little toddler is on the cusp of becoming a preschooler. But which school? There are so many out there and with so many different teaching principles and curriculums, it can get a little daunting. In this series, mums review the schools they chose and why. In today’s,  Serenia Smith tells us why she chose Sparkletots Pasir Ris East Branch for her four-year-old daughter.

How did you first hear about your school?
We were on Google looking for schools around our area.

What were you looking for in a school and how did this school seal the deal for you?
We were looking for a school with some structure but also let the kids showcase their creative side. What sealed the deal for us was attending their pre-enrollment open house and meeting the teachers, they were all warm and also made it clear that us parents are to be involved in our child’s development and not solely relying on the school in educating our kids. The teachers really work hand in hand with us.

Tell me about the school’s curriculum and why you like it.
The curriculum isn’t stringent, its hands-on learning and the kids are taught through play.

How many children are there in a class?
14

How quickly did your child settle in and did the school have a role to play in that?
She loved school since the very first day she attended. I believe so and also she has an amazing class teacher.

What is your child’s favourite thing about school?
Playing with her friends since she’s the only child.

What is your child’s proudest moment?
I think her proudest moment would have been her show and tell in school where she had to show her classmates her family tree and tell them her ethnicity and where he daddy was from.

How does the school keep you informed about your child’s progress?
They have an App called Class Dojo. We’re updated weekly through it.

What’s the one thing you most love most about the school?
Got to love how they keep us updated daily on Class Dojo on what the kids were taught and their daily activities, it really helps keep us at ease knowing our kids are doing just fine in school.

What kind of activities and excursions has the school planned and did your child enjoy it?
They’ve had two field trips so far, to the library and to the health promotion board. She always enjoys her field trips, it’s like an adventure to her and she loves going on adventures.

Would you recommend it to other mums?
Yes.

Mums, if you’re loving the school your little one is attending, we’d love a review. Drop us a note at [email protected] and we’ll get right back to you.
