Legendary British composer Andrew Lloyd Webber’s iconic musical, The Phantom of the Opera, has returned to Singapore’s Marina Bay Sands Theatre for a limited engagement from May 9 to June 22, 2025. This production brings the haunting love story of a disfigured talented composer and a rising opera singer to life with an acclaimed international cast and a visually stunning presentation.

The History of the Phantom of the Opera

Legendary British composer Andrew Lloyd Webber’s iconic musical, The Phantom of the Opera, has returned to Singapore’s Marina Bay Sands Theatre for a limited engagement from May 9 to June 22, 2025. This production brings the haunting love story of a disfigured talented composer and a rising opera singer to life with an acclaimed international cast and a visually stunning presentation.
The iconic production premiered at Her Majesty’s Theatre in London’s West End on 9 October 1986, and made its Broadway debut at the Majestic Theatre on 26 January 1988. Since then, it has won over 70 major theatre awards and has been seen by more than 160 million people in 46 territories and 195 cities. It is widely considered one of the most spectacular productions of all time! The current showing is its fifth run in Singapore.

Sypnosis and Review

The Phantom Of The Opera tells the story of the titular disfigured protagonist, who lives in the subterranean labyrinth of an opera house and becomes fixated with a soprano named Christine, training her in secret and propelling her musical career forward. Subsequently, his obsession with Christine causes him to kidnap her to live with him in his lair when he realises she has fallen in love with another.

The Production

Ben Foster delivers a compelling portrayal of the Phantom, capturing the character’s complexity and passion. His powerful baritone voice resonates throughout the theatre, particularly in iconic songs like “Music of the Night” and “The Phantom of the Opera”. His spectacular performance brought many a tear to the audience’s eyes at the end of the 150 minutes performance.
Grace Roberts as Christine Daaé complements Roxmouth’s performance with her ethereal soprano, bringing depth to the role. Together, they create a dynamic and emotionally charged on-stage chemistry that’s sure to wow you.

The production boasts elaborate sets and costumes, including the famed chandelier scene, which adds to the grandeur of the performance. The 11-piece live orchestra enhances the musical experience, bringing the beloved scores to life with precision and emotion.
