The daughter of director Caleb Deschanel and actress Mary Jo Deschanel, our mum crush of the week, Zooey Deschanel, followed in her parents’ footsteps and entered the showbiz industry when she was 17-years-old. Since then, the celebrity has gone on to make waves on both the big and small screens.
Best known these days for playing Jess in the comedy New Girl, Zooey Deschanel, the mum-of-two recently welcomed her second child Charlie Wolf Pechenik with husband Jacob Pechenik in early May 2017.
Over the last few years, she’s been lighting up our screens as the playing the role of the quirky and adorable Jess. She’s so convincing in her acting that there are people who are unable to differentiate her from her on-screen persona.
Perhaps that’s because Zooey herself is indeed very similar to Jess, particularly when it comes to showing her ‘a-dork-able’ side. Just look at the antics that she gets up to on her social media feed.
That’s not to take away anything from her acting skills. Zooey has been nominated multiple times for her role in New Girl and was awarded Best Actress in a Comedy Series at the 2012 Critic’s Choice Television Awards.
It has been announced that the upcoming seventh season of New Girl will be its last, but we’re sure that we will continue to see Zooey in action. After all, the actress often takes on movie roles and has worked on films such as Yes Man, 500 Days of Summer, Rock the Kabash and most recently as a voice actor in Trolls.
Zooey’s popularity is evident from the number of magazine covers she has graced, including Elle and Redbook.
Despite how she may appear on the outside, Zooey likes keeping her personal life private. Her marriage to Jacob Pechenik was a hush hush affair, and took place shortly after she delivered their first child, Elise Otter Pechenik.
Although she’s not inclined to share pictures of her family online, she is open about her adoration for them. On an appearance on The Ellen Show in early 2016, she shared about her daughter’s first words and how much she enjoyed watching the little one spend time with her dad.
She also shared about the “terrible” birthday cake she made for her daughter on Jimmy Kimmy Live! Well, it’s the thought that counts!
Another thing we love about her is that she is not afraid to be real with the public. She has no problems showing off her bare face and has spoken out about the unrealistic expectations society has with regard to mothers looking good quickly after birth.
She has also talked about her personal struggles with parenthood and how the airlines should give priority to families travelling with babies on another appearance on The Ellen Show.
Zooey must have her hands full now with the arrival of her second child and we can’t wait to see what she’ll be up to next.
