Known for being one of very few who hits the whistle note, this music icon may be 47 but she sure is one smokin’ mama. She is the mother of twins, Moroccan and Monroe. She is Mariah Carey – our mum crush of the week.
Mariah had a rough childhood but always found peace in music. Throughout high school she excelled only in subjects that she enjoyed – Music, Arts and Literature. In high school, she wrote poems and began adding melodies to them which started her singer-songwriter career. By the time she graduated, she had discovered that she was able to reach the whistle range and her mum taught her how to control it.
She worked as a waitress to support herself and because she still wanted to pursue music, she worked into the night finishing up her demo. She met pop singer Brenda K. Starr. Brenda was very supportive and determined to help Mariah succeed in the industry. Her luck began to change when she accompanied Brenda to an exclusive gala and handed her demo to the head of Columbia Records. He was interested in her and signed her within two weeks of discovering her.
She has released 14 albums to date, won 11 American Music Awards, 32 Billboards Music Awards (86 Nominations), five Grammy Awards, 20 World Music Awards on top of many other accolades.
Mariah, now has a show in Vegas, a docu-series with E! Network titled “Mariah’s World” and will be headlining ‘The Number 1’s’ tour in 2018. She also recently announced the opening of her own record label.
The diva has been featured on the front cover of magazines like Shape, Billboard, Notebook, The Observer, Sunday Life.
Mariah has twins, Moroccan and Monroe with ex-husband, Nick Cannon. The twins were born on 30 April 2011.
