“KAMPUNG SPIRIT” SHINES AT THE SUSTAINABLE CHRISTMAS MARKET 2024

The Sustainable Christmas Market 2024 (SCM 2024) is thrilled to announce its return, bigger than ever. Running for its third year, SCM 2024 will take place at South Beach from 16 to 17 November, 11am to 7pm daily. The event is set against a sprawling 50,000 square feet of space, with over 150 booths and six activity zones! It is organised by Peace of Art, will showcase Singapore’s vibrant culture and commitment to environmental and social sustainability – a celebration of our “Kampung Spirit”. It aims to raise S$350,000, which will go toward helping underprivileged children break the cycle of poverty. The event is net zero, tapping upcycled and reused materials like discarded pallets and GITI tyres for the set-up, and generating zero waste as a BYOB event with composting and recycling sites for waste. SCM 2024 has expanded, offering six immersive thematic zones in the eco-friendly South Beach venue.

Highlights of the Event:

  • 100+ Booths: Browse unique and creative sustainable products, including handmade crafts and festive goodies
  • 50+ KIDSforKIDS-preneurs : Support children selling handmade products or interactive experiences
  • 30+ Workshops: Participate in wellness workshops, e.g. handicraft, wreath making, food creations, exercise, etc
  • 30+ Performances: Enjoy music and dance and cultural showcases from local talents, including specialappearances by Dim Sum Dollies
  • 10 Kampung Kitchen stalls: A variety of food stalls featuring local delicacies and sustainable foods includingfarm-to-table demonstrations
  • Thematic Zones: Explore activities for all ages, from games to live performances.

1. Generations in Harmony Stage Performances

  • Over 20 performances celebrating “kampung kinship” and community spirit.
  • Special act by the beloved Dim Sum Dollies, who will also participate in a Dunkin’ Dollies charity dunk tank.
  • Opening Ceremony graced by Mayor of the Central Singapore District and Member of Parliament Ms Denise Phua (Guest-of-Honour)
  • Closing Ceremony graced by Mr Vikram Nair, Member of Parliament for Sembawang GRC.
  • Hosted by Paul Foster, featuring appearances by local influencers such as Tjin Lee, Andrea Chong, and Patrick Grove. Catch some of them running booths with their kids!

2. Kampung Kitchen & Green Marketplace

  • Over 100 eco-conscious vendors showcasing sustainable products, e.g. Cloversoft, ToTT,Swapaholic, Ans.Ein, among many more.
  • Declutter & Donate Bazaar with a Luxury Village section promoting responsible consumptionand waste reduction.
  • Kampung Kitchen with sustainable vegetarian offerings like Copthorne King’s HotelSingapore’s Penang Buffet Popiah, Haig Road Putu Piring, and Kueh Ho Jiak.
  • Live farm-to-table demonstration: Visitors’ food waste composted on-site in six hours, with The Local Farm showcasing how the compost nurtures vegetables used by event vendors.

3. KIDSforKIDS Village & Carnival

  • 50 KIDSForKIDS booths run by young entrepreneurs offering sustainable decor, handmadeChristmas gifts, games, and baked goods. With the support of their parents,KIDSforKIDS-preneurs as young as 3 will join in!
  • Lil Art Fair showcasing young artists’ creations.
  • Kampung Carnival with family-friendly games, a heritage dragon playground bouncy castle,and traditional “longkang” recycled material boat races, hosted by Andrea Chong.

4. Active Earth Challenge

  • A sports zone with challenges, exercise goods and equipment to encourage a sustainableactive lifestyle.
  • DUNK & DONATE | Celebrity Edition hosted by Bosses Network Young Chapter featuringcelebrities like the Dim Sum Dollies, Natalie Dau and more!
  • The ultimate NERF showdown, hosted by Tjin Lee and Annie Li, with twoadrenaline-pumping tracks, and epic prizes for both kids and adults!
  • ASICS Fun Run hosted by Natalie Dau, promoting fitness and eco-consciousness for families.

5. Generations for Green Exhibitions

  • SCM 2024 will host several exhibitions on-site to educate the public on our heritage andeco-living advancements
  • Features a showcase of Singapore’s kampung stories and stamps by The Urbanist Singaporeand Singapore Red Cross.
  • Display of Dim Sum Dollies’ fashion history by Frederick Lee, who has upcycled old costumes for all the shows through 21 years.
  • Conscious Design Factory and EcoEdge Discovery Zone presenting sustainable design thinking and eco-technologies.
  • Special display of the new electric BMW iX4, highlighting eco-friendly innovations.
  • Introducing wildlife conservation as a part to play in our planet’s sustainability, Mandai brings to us live insects and animal specimens.

6. ChangeMakers Lab & Kampung Christmas Portraits

  • More than 50 interactive sustainability workshops available for booking across two days.
  • Creative open space activities for walk-in experiences at the Yes! Space Open Studio, MiniMakers, and Life Lab.
  • Kampung Christmas Portraits with Ashley Low Photography and an upcycled, festivebackdrop for family photos with Santa Claus.

In addition to the vendors, SCM 2024 brings together sectors across Singapore: corporates like City Developments Limited, Millennium & Copthorne Hotels Limited, South Beach, JW Marriott Hotel Singapore South Beach, Tencent, KPMG, DBS, Maybank; national bodies including National Environment Agency (NEA), Families for Life, Public Health Council, Made for Families, Mandai, Children’s Museum Singapore; local and international schools like Etonhouse, St. Joseph’s Institution Junior, Victoria Junior College; communities such as Bosses Network, CRIB, Green is the New Black, abillion, etc; and Institutes of Public Character like Singapore Red Cross — making SCM a dynamic showcase of Singapore’s commitment to sustainability and community.

To date, SCM 2024 has raised S$200,000 in pre-event donations with the goal of raising an additional S$150,000 on-site, for a total of S$350,000. Since its inception in 2021, the Sustainable Markets initiative will have raised over S$1 million by the conclusion of SCM 2024. 100% of the sales proceeds and donations for SCM 2024 will go directly to aid the Singapore Red Cross Young Hearts Programme.
