Dad Crush Monday: Ben Yeo

By Samantha Jong
February 27, 2017

Most Singaporeans would recognise Ben Yeo. After all, the versatile television star has acted in numerous local productions and can often been seen hosting variety shows on our local channels. But did you know he’s also the co-founder of a successful F&B venture, and a dad to two adorable little boys as well? His ability to multi-task and juggle all these roles well is why he’s our dad crush of the week.

As a local celebrity, we’re used to seeing him dress up to the nines for formal events such as last year’s Star Awards. He’s also a regular on television programmes that tug at the heartstrings like 《爱心72小时》, where he helped raise funds for the less fortunate.

But since most of us are more familiar with that side of Ben, we’d like to bring your attention to Ben the family man and entrepreneur.

He’s currently the co-founder of four Tenderfresh Classic eateries and Play Kitchen at Jurong Point in Singapore. But this isn’t his first foray into business. As an enterprising young chap, he started his first venture after completing his studies in the fashion industry. Sadly, it didn’t work out too well and the business folded after a while.

He made a stab at it a second time, again in the fashion industry, but was again faced with disappointment. He didn’t give up on his entrepreneurial dreams and persevered, this time in something the culinary arts graduate from the Singapore Hotel and Tourism Education Centre was more familiar with.

When he’s not running his business or acting, he spends time with his wife Claudia and two boys, Jarius and Javier. According to his wife, the actor has softened up tremendously after having kids, taking heavier responsibilities as the man of the house, and he’s even more emotional now, and is easily moved to tears by a touching gesture.

The avid cook aims to feed them home-cooked meals whenever he can and strives to ensure they have a balanced diet. He’s also a strong believer in getting his little ones to help out in the kitchen to build a strong father-son bond with them. Ben has even published a cookbook titled Cooking For Kids, with recipes for babies aged five months to five years, inspired by meals he had made for his boys.

You can see how much time the devoted dad spends with his two sons via his Instagram account — you’ll see them popping up once every three or four posts, often in matching clothes and haircuts.

We hope his boys know how lucky they are to have such a wonderful, caring father who makes them a priority as much as his busy schedule allows him to.
