We may live in a digital world where really, most people can tell the time simply by looking at their mobile phones. But there’s something very old school and poetic about wearing a watch and many women love the craftsmanship that goes into making a beautiful timepiece.
However, when you’re a busy mum constantly on the go, it is important to choose a watch that is stylish and yet practical at the same time — after all, accidents like the little one spilling water on your precious timepiece, do happen.
Here are four watches unveiled at the recent Salon International de la Haute Horlogerie (SIHH) fair in Geneva that we think mums will love.
Vacheron Constantin Overseas Small Model — Calibre 5300
Mums will love the fact that the Overseas Small Model — Calibre 5300 from Vacheron Constantin is adorned with 84 rough-cut diamonds (totalling over one carat) that have been daintily set on its six-sided bezel. It comes with a choice of a rosy beige or blue dial and two or three interchangeable straps — leather, steel bracelet and rubber — so you can choose the one that best suits your needs each day. The case is also water resistant up to 150m.
Panthère de Cartier Collection
Cartier resurrected its iconic 1980s Panthère de Cartier Quartz-based watch collection at SIHH 2017 — a classically chic and stylish design that will take every mum easily from day to night. There are several versions available, ranging from simpler designs in steel, yellow gold and pink gold, to the more luxurious options of white gold paved with brilliant cut diamonds, and the limited edition pink gold and black lacquer.
Audemars Piguet Royal Oak Frosted Gold
To celebrate the 40th anniversary of the women’s Royal Oak from Audemars Piguet, the maison came up with a new novelty, the Royal Oak Frosted Gold, a contemporary timepiece created in collaboration with Florentine jewellery designer, and mum-of-two Carolina Bucci. By using a gold hammering technique to treat the surface, the result is a robust-looking watch with a feminine touch thanks to the shimmering sparkle that has become the Royal Oak Frosted Gold’s defining feature. Water resistant up to 50m, this is a design that appeals to a mama who isn’t afraid to stand out from the crowd.
Piaget Altipano 900P in 18K Pink Gold Dial
For the mum that loves watches with complications but not thick, cumbersome watches, it is to Piaget — the king of ultra-thin watches — that you must go. The Altiplano collection is known for its ulta-thin movements and the 900P in particular measures just 3.65mm thick (case and movement). This beautiful model (pictured) for instance comes with a white leather strap, 18K pink gold dial and 18K pink gold pin buckle, and is limited to just 200 pieces.
