Hit up The Yardbird Southern Table & Bar for great American classics with a twist.

Formerly known as The Bird, the Yardbird Southern Table & Bar celebrated its rebranding by throwing a family-friendly extravaganza that included comfort food, a Bloody Mary bar, and lots of fun-filled activities for the kids. BY ORIELLA ONNI     

When it comes to Southern hospitality, look no further than the Yardbird Southern Table & Bar (aka Yardbird Singapore) at Marina Bay Sands. Formerly known as The Bird when it first launched in Singapore a year ago, it has officially adopted the name of its parent company this December. And what better way to celebrate its rebranding by throwing an unforgettable party in true Southern spirit – having the fam over for a great tummy-fillin’, soul-healin’ brunch. On December 8, many families and even some famous fur-kids swung by for the Yardbird Singapore’s new Great American Brunch to mark the joyous relaunch.

The new brunch menu is TDF – To. Die. For. Available on weekends from 10am to 4pm, it features classic brunch staples with cheeky twists. Like Yardbird Southern Table & Bar’s 100-year-old family recipe Chicken ‘n’ Watermelon ‘n’ Waffles ($40), Chicken & Egg Biscuit Sandwich ($22) and the Smoked Salmon Avocado Toast ($22).

Also on the menu are healthier brunch options like gluten-free Salted Caramel Waffle ($22) with brûléed bananas and candied pecans, nutritious acai and granola fruit bowls ($13-$15), and fresh juices ($10-$12).

The sweet kicker: New dramatic desserts, like the fluffy towering Funfetti Pancakes ($22). Studded with rainbow sprinkles, the trio of buttermilk pancakes is topped with a citrus glaze and whipped cream. And for extra decadence: More Bourbon maple syrup.

Another crowd pleaser, the Doughnut Tree ($16), comprises six colourful glazed treats, in three flavours that are switched up, weekly. Both sweet creations are by Yardbird’s Corporate Pastry Chef and two-time James Beard Award finalist Chef Hedy Goldsmith, who made a special appearance that afternoon at Yardbird Singapore. Her tip to guests: Hit the dessert table first. Of course.


Brunch items can be ordered off the a la carte menu, or take advantage of the set bundles which includes an entrée selection from the menu, coffee or tea and one freshly squeezed juice ($25-$36).

Chef Hedy Goldsmith says when in doubt, hit the desserts first.

Lucky diners that Saturday afternoon, were given the warm red carpet-welcome and gifted a Yardbird goodie bag filled with merchandise that included a t-shirt, towel and a bottle of hot sauce. Even the five invited Instagram famous pooches, each received a customised water bowl and doggy biscuits. Incidentally, Yardbird Singapore now has dog-friendly alfresco seating along the promenade so fur kids don’t have to miss out.aft

The folks at the Yardbird Singapore sure know how to throw an all-inclusive party. With a DJ on deck to spin tunes and a Bloody Mary open bar complete with customised toppings, the adults were kept jolly and happy. Little ones were not left out either and had many activity stations to keep them busy and entertained. These included a photo booth offering instant print-outs; stations to make badges, festive ornaments and get temporary tattoos; and the gingerbread decorating table, where aspiring little master chefs got to dress up and customise their gingerbread men with icing sugar and sugar buttons.
