New Zealand’s Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern welcomed a healthy baby girl earlier today making her the second elected leader to give birth while in office.
The baby shares the same birthday as former Pakistan Prime Minister Benazir Bhutto – the first elected leader to have a baby while in power.
Ms Arden took to Instagram to announce the news of the birth of her bundle of joy.
“Welcome to our village wee one. Feeling very lucky to have a healthy baby girl that arrived at 4.45pm weighing 3.31kg (7.3lb) Thank you so much for your best wishes and your kindness. We’re all doing really well thanks to the wonderful team at Auckland City Hospital.”
Ms Arden, the youngest Prime Minister New Zealand has seen since 1856 will be taking six weeks of maternity leave but would remain in charge by reading cabinet papers during her time away.
