All women want to look their best, especially when the occasion calls for it, such as when the dress code dictates you have to don an evening gown. Like most women, you will probably be interested in minimising your “figure flaws”. Ang Jinyuan, founder of local luxury gown rental site, Style Lease, shares some tips on selecting the best dresses for each concerned area you may have, to best flatter your figure.

If your area of concern is flabby arms:
Fret not if you don’t have perfectly toned biceps and triceps, sleeved dresses or pieces that incorporate a cape would help hide your flaws.

Recommended picks from Style Lease: Cristallini lace sewn velvet; Halston Heritage bronze drape gown; Halston Heritage white cape gown; Cristallini sheer sleeved pleated gown.

If your area of concern is having broad shoulders or being busty:
Most women are the object of envy when they have broad shoulders or a large bust. However, not all kinds of styles flatter these assets, and in particular, you should avoid pieces with heavy detailing on the top and halter neck styles as they will draw attention to your areas of concern.

Instead, choose a mermaid style dress with a defined corset to accentuate your bust would be ideal. Alternatively, pick a piece that has diagonal details at the top or one that has cut out shoulders to create the illusion of a more proportionate figure.

Recommended picks from Style Lease: AG Studio theia spaghetti strap embellished bodycon dress; Cristallini silk pleated gown in burgundy; Halston Heritage metal crepe gown; BCBGMAXAZRIA contrast gown.

If your area of concern is a flabby tummy:
This is one of the areas that most ladies are concerned about, but the good news is that there are still many ways to look fabulously stylish. There are many styles that are flattering – layering, vertical lines, asymmetrical tops, drapes, peplums add structure to your figure with more defined bust and waist areas and cover up the tummy area.

Recommended picks from Style Lease: Halston Heritage chiffon gown; Halston Heritage green drape gown; BCBGMAXAZRIA coral drape gown; Sheike prestige maxi dress.

If your area of concern is large and curvy hips:
Sexy and feminine hips are definitely a good asset, but pieces with a maxi cut won’t flatter your feminine figure. If you have a curvy bottom, you will want to draw the attention away from your bottom half. Pick dresses with a high slit that show off your legs or those with an A-line silhouette and flowy empire waist cut.

Recommended picks from Style Lease: Vera Wang cross back gown; AG Studio silver beaded gown; AG Studio black beaded bustierExcape nightway plunging illusion velvet gown.
