Dad Crush Monday: Steve Carell

By Samantha Jong
July 3, 2017

Steve Carell is known for being a funnyman. He’s one of the most versatile comics in US, with hits such as The 40 Year Old Virgin and comedy series The Office. He’s also lent his voice to the popular Despicable Me movie franchise, where he plays Gru, and his brother Dru, in the latest movie Despicable Me 3.

However, the actor and father-of-two has been making headlines lately not because of his funnyman status or for being Emma Watson’s celebrity crush. Instead, he’s been grabbing everyone’s attention as “Hollywood’s Hottest Silver Fox”. The name came about after Steve appeared at the London premiere of Despicable Me 3, with a sleek appearance, donning a polished, preppy outfit comprising a fitted sweater, light trousers, leather sneakers and sunglasses. It is a far cry from his previous looks and hence the new nickname.

And it seems to be a look he’s sticking to. At every appearance that he’s made since, he has been quite the dapper looking gentlemen. Doesn’t he look great in the well-fitted suit during the Los Angeles premiere of Despicable Me 3?

He has stayed true to his comedic roots when asked about his thoughts on his new moniker and cracked jokes about his new status. When asked about being a silver fox at the Despicable Me 3 red carpet, he said that he was “so sick of people just looking at me for my physical attributes. It’s just genetic. There’s nothing I can do.” He also told the reigning silver fox George Clooney, to step aside because there was a new silver fox in town on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon, jokingly of course.

However, you shouldn’t pigeonhole him as a gagman. The actor has a true thespian and has taken on many serious roles on the big screen. He was a gay suicidal uncle in Little Miss Sunshine, a straight-laced marriage counsellor in Hope Springs and an eccentric millionaire in Foxcatcher – this role clinched him a Best Actor nomination at the 2015 Academy Awards.

What we love about Steve though is that despite his acting successes, he is first and foremost a family man. He is always happy to talk about his two kids with actress Nancy Carell, though he does keep them out of the public eye.

His family is never far from his mind though. When Despicable Me first premiered in 2010, Steve said that Gru’s fatherhood journey was one that struck a strong chord with him. He tries to balance between being a fun parent and disciplinarian, and, like every parent out there, would do anything to ensure that his children don’t get hurt. That’s what he likes about being a part of the Despicable Me franchise – the focus on fatherhood.

Happy anniversary to these two cuties ❤ #stevecarell #nancycarell #perfectcouple #thesapphires

We think there are big things in store for Steve with his newly minted status – maybe even being the next George Clooney – and we can’t wait to see what this devoted dad has up his sleeves next.
