Christmas Cocktail Recipes

No Christmas would be complete without some festive cocktails. But with little ones in tow, there has to be a mocktail thrown into the mix as well. To that end we got in touch with the bartenders at Manhattan, the fabulous bar that is currently ranked #11 on the World’s 50 Best Bars List, to share with us two festive drink recipes — one alcoholic, and one alcohol-free — that will definitely impress your party guests.

COCKTAIL: BLACK FRIDAY

Ingredients:

Cocktail:

45ml Michter’s Bourbon
30ml house-made sweet corn syrup
30ml heavy cream
1 whole egg

Sweet corn syrup:
1 cup sugar
pinch of salt
6 cups of water
1 cup sweet corn kernel

Garnish:
Fried wanton and golden caramel popcorn (caramel popcorn with gold dust)

Directions:

Sweet corn syrup
1. Puree the cooked sweet kernel corn with water
2. Place inside a pot on medium heat
3. Add sugar and salt, stirring continuously until sugar is completely dissolved
4. Turn off the heat and let it cool down.

Cocktail:

1. Chill the glass
2. Mix all ingredients in a mixing glass and dry shake
3. Add a scoop of ice cubes and shake vigorously
4. Double-strain into the chilled glass
5. Garnish with the golden popcorn on top of a fried wanton skin

MOCKTAIL: SPICED APPLE SODA

Ingredients:

Cocktail:

40ml green apple juice
15ml lemon juice
15ml spiced syrup
100ml soda water

Spiced Syrup:

2 sticks cinnamon
2 pieces of star anise
3 pieces of cloves
2 pieces of green cardamon
Peel of half a lemon and orange
2 cups white sugar
2 cups water

Directions:

Spiced syrup:

1.Place all the spices in a pan and heat until aromatic
2.Add water and sugar, and stir continuously until sugar is dissolved
3.Add the peels and let it simmer for 2mins
3.Remove from heat and set aside to cool
4.Strain all the solid ingredients
5.Place in a container and refrigerate 

Cocktail:

1. Build all ingredients in a highball glass
2. Place some ice cubes in and stir gently
3. Garnish with a cinnamon stick
