Bump Fashion: Stripes

By Samantha Jong
February 22, 2017

Stripes are a tricky one to style with as they can be your best friend or your worst enemy. Done the right way, you can look taller and thinner. Done wrong, you’ll end up shorter and fatter than you actually are. That’s not to say that you should avoid them. Here’s some fashion inspiration for sporting stripes while having a bump.

It’s a known fact that vertical stripes are slimming. Find pieces that play with stripes of varying thickness as they help to add visual interest to your outfit like this one below.

That doesn’t mean horizontal stripes are out of the question if you are pregnant. Just look at how good founder of Cupcakes and Cashmere, Emily Schuman, looks in this simple boatneck striped number, which she completes with gold accessories and a red lippie.

I shared my thoughts on being one month out from my baby girl's due date on the blog.

Still intimidated by horizontal stripes? Break it up visually with a solid coloured overcoat that will help streamline your figure.

If a coat is too much for Singapore’s sunny weather, how about doing it just as effectively with a vest like how yummy mummy Ying Tian did when she was pregnant. The black vest falls open at just the right figure-flattering place.

Stripes aren’t just confined to dresses or on piece numbers; they work just as well as separates be is as pants or tops. Do pair them with solid colours though, anything else might just be too much.

Matching them with overalls is a great choice too.

For a more feminine look, pair it with skirt overalls like what Charlotte Kiew did during her pregnancy.
