5 Gifts That Pregnant Mums Would Want for Valentine’s Day

Pregnancy is a beautiful experience, but it can also be a difficult time for the mama whose body is going through changes every single day. If you find yourself looking for a gift for an expecting mum this Valentine’s Day, here are some ideas that you might want to consider.

1. Spa Session

Yes, it’s not the most original of gifts but there really is nothing quite like a good pre-natal massage to alleviate those pregnancy aches and pains. For a slightly more unique option, head to the So Spa at Sofitel Singapore Sentosa Resort & Spa for the Mummy Time Out treatment (S$310 for 2 hrs) where mums-to-be can enjoy one hour of pre-natal yoga followed by an indulging massage and lunch. If heading out seems like a chore, The Outcall Spa provides that very same experience in the comfort of your own home, complete with spa beds, aromatherapy and ginger tea. The Mums for Life pre-natal massage is priced from S$198 (for 90 mins).

2. A Nice Pair of Sneakers

Most pregnant women tend to give up their favourite pairs of heels until the baby is born but that doesn’t mean that they eschew fashion altogether. Which is why a nice pair of sneakers will go a long way as a gift. There are some great examples (both pictured above) available on Net-A-Porter such as the pretty in pink metallic-trimmed leather sneakers from Axel Arigato (US$180) or the Ace metallic ayers-trimmed leather sneakers from Gucci (S$580). A great pair of flats (read our story on the best flats for mums here) would also be greatly appreciated.

3. Pregnancy Pillow

As one’s pregnancy progresses, it gets increasingly difficult to get a good night’s sleep which is where a pregnancy pillow really comes in handy. And yet, not every pregnant mama would be willing to invest in one, so this could be a fantastic gift option for one who has been doing without. Choose a pillow such as the Dreamgenii support pillow (S$158, available at Mothercare) that helps pregnant mummies get a better night’s sleep by supporting the back, knees and growing pump. As an added bonus, it can be used as a nursing support pillow even after baby has arrived, making it a buy that has some longevity.

4. A Nice Meal

There are many restrictions that are placed on an expecting mother, particularly when it comes to her diet so a nice meal wouldn’t go amiss. Make sure, however, to choose a restaurant that offers a wide variety of foods that she can eat. Alternatively, if you’re a dad-to-be looking to impress your wife, why not roll up your sleeves and get into kitchen this Valentine’s Day? For a simple recipe that is delicious yet fuss-free, try chef Nicky Ng’s deep fried pork tenderloin with strawberry sauce, which you can find here. And you know, a bit of effort is always appreciated. Throw in some candles and flowers to decorate the table and you’re good to go.

5. A Meaningful Trinket

There’s nothing quite like a pretty little trinket to make a pregnant woman’s day. Even as the belly gets bigger and clothing start to get too tight, you can always count on a nice piece of jewellery to jazz up an outfit. If you’re willing to splurge, go for something like the bangle from the Tiffany & Co. Paloma’s Melody collection. Composed of five interlocking, lyrical bands — each representing a personal sentiment: dreams, beauty, creativity, gratitude and passion — it is a beautiful piece imbued with meaning. Alternatively, the Family Bracelet from Merci Maman (S$91.65, from Gifts Less Ordinary) that fits up to three charms will also make a nice gift. Each can be engraved with the names of mummy and the kids, or simply a loving message.
